Many manufacturers, importers, and vendors of 3D printing materials are only fleetingly aware that REACH compliance is a necessary condition they need to achieve if they wish to conduct their business professionally and at the same time follow the legislation.
REACH is an EU law regulation, stipulating the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation, and Restriction of Chemicals, as well as establishing a European Chemicals Agency (ECA) and amending/repealing several existent EC directives. It has been valid and legally binding since December 2006 and has the main goal of “ensuring a high level of protection of human health and the environment as well as the free movement of substances, on their own, in preparations and in articles, while enhancing competitiveness and innovation.” REACH also “promotes the development of alternative methods for the assessment of hazards of substances”.
